You’ve been dating for a year now. She’s met your parents and your mates. You’re at that stage in your relationship where you’re comfortable enough to enjoy a quiet night at home with a good film. But you don’t want to get too comfortable and lose that sparkle. You’d like to do something special and a little bit different. The only problem is that you’re skint and you don’t have a big budget to spend on a fancy night out. Don’t despair, help is at hand. You can create the perfect evening with romantic music, soft lighting, good food and maybe even a gift.
Setting the Mood
It’s important to create the right initial impression so that she feels special as soon as she walks through the door. Spend some time tidying and cleaning the house. Soft lighting such as fairy lights and candles will transform your tired old lounge into a magical, romantic setting. Shop wisely at your local thrift store or supermarket and it will only set you back a couple of pounds.
Prepare a playlist of her favorite music and switch this on as she arrives. If you don’t have all her favorite tunes create a playlist on YouTube.
Get Dressed Up
Imagine you’re going to a fancy restaurant and not just staying at home. Put on a suit and polish your shoes. Give your girlfriend the heads up so that she knows to dress up. Without giving too much away, tell her you’re going out for the evening and to wear something special. She will feel foolish if you’re suited and booted and she arrives in her comfy jeans.
Wine and Dine
Preparation is everything. Decide what you’re going to serve in advance and plan everything carefully. Prepare as much as you can beforehand so that you don’t spend the night, hot and stressed in the kitchen. You can find lots of delicious recipes that won’t break the bank here and here.
Rather than going to your nearest supermarket or local shop, there are savings to be made at budget supermarkets such as Trader Joe’s or Costco.
She has picked out for you. If your budget can stretch to it, then leave a present on her place setting for when she sits down. This needn’t break the bank. A simple bunch of flowers will say a lot. Buy a cheap bunch from your supermarket. Remove the plastic and replace it with twine or a ribbon to create your own hand-tied posy.
If your budget allows, consider a small box of chocolates or even a piece of jewelry. Everyone appreciates a little bit of sparkle. Though diamonds may be out of your price range, there are lots of cubic zirconia necklaces, bracelets and earrings that are sure to dazzle.
Remember, preparation is everything. Plan in advance and make sure you have enough time to tidy the house and set the scene. Once everything is in place you can sit back, relax and enjoy the evening. Good luck!
