The Karen Read Trial: My Thoughts

If you’ve been following the Karen Read trial like I have (glued to every headline, podcast, and courtroom clip), then you probably already know, the verdict is in. And let me just say, it’s got a lot of people talking, myself included.

The Verdict That Shook Everyone

Karen Read was found not guilty on all the major charges, including second-degree murder. The jury cleared her on everything except for OUI, Operating Under the Influence. That one stuck, but as for the rest? She walked free. And wow… what a moment.

I’ve been watching this case closely because from the beginning, something about it just didn’t sit right with me. The way the investigation played out, the unanswered questions, the internet sleuthing, and all the back-and-forth, it honestly felt more like a Netflix crime doc than real life.

And yet, here we are.

Whether you believe Karen was guilty or innocent, the fact is the jury had the final word. And that word was not guilty. That speaks volumes, especially considering how many people had made up their minds about her before a single piece of evidence was presented in court.

Justice in the Age of Social Media

What really shook me about this trial was how fast folks picked sides. The chaos around it was loud. So loud. It made me think a lot about how justice works in this digital age and how public opinion and social media can practically become their own courtroom. But the truth? That still belongs in the hands of the jury.

I can’t even imagine what Karen Read has been through. Regardless of what anyone thinks, she’s a human being who had her life dissected for the world to see. And now, after all that, she’s walking out of court cleared of the charges that could’ve sent her away for life.

But just because the trial is over doesn’t mean the story is. Not for the family of John O’Keefe. Not for the people involved in the investigation. And definitely not for Karen. There’s still a lot of healing ahead, a lot of questions people want answered, and a whole lot of emotions on every side.

I’m not here to tell anyone how to feel. I’m just sharing what’s been weighing on me as someone who’s been trying to make sense of it all. I hope, more than anything, that justice was truly served and that everyone impacted by this case gets the peace they deserve.

Thanks for reading and letting me share my thoughts, unfiltered and straight from the heart.
