A Step by Step Guide on How to Edit PDFs

Do you have PDF files that need editing but lack the technical know-how? After all, what if you need to fix translation errors, sign a PDF, or alter large portions of text?

Unfortunately, PDFs perfectly preserve the format and content from their initial design. This is their biggest strength but it can also become an issue. Since PDF files are a read-only file extension, editing them can seem frustrating.

Luckily, we’ve compiled a few methods you can use as a step by step guide on how to edit PDFs. Also, I’m including a link to an easy-to-use Foxit online pdf editor website here. Read our guide right here to learn how:

How to Edit PDF’s Using Adobe Acrobat

One of the most common software used for editing PDF documents is Adobe Acrobat. Adobe created the PDF file format, so they have the most common editing software for it. The app is available via Adobe Creative Cloud subscription or an Adobe DC trial.

The first thing you’ll want to do is access the “File” menu on the top left corner. Then click on “Open” and choose the file that you want to edit. On the right-hand toolbar go ahead and click on “Edit PDF.”

You can start editing text by placing your cursor above the text that you want to edit. There is also a set of other tools that you can use to format the document. This is available along with a wide variety of things you can do with PDFs like combining or converting them.

Edit a PDF Using Mac

With every Mac device, Apple has a built-in preview program that lets you view and edit PDF files. All you need to do is open the PDF file on your PC. This will automatically open it in the Preview software, then you can add text or highlight text.

To add text to your PDF document, place your cursor over the space you want to insert text. Go to “Tools”, and click on “Annotate” followed by “Text.” You can then add the text you want and change the font size and style using the “Show Markup Toolbar.”

To highlight text, go to the text that you want to highlight then switch to “highlighting mode” on your cursor. The drop-down menu next to it lets you change the color along with other options for editing.

Edit a PDF with Windows

If you have a Windows device, then you can use Microsoft Word to edit your PDF files. You can now directly open up PDF files on Word which will convert them into a document you can freely edit. Once all the changes are complete, you can continue and save the file as a PDF.

All the tools offered for Word documents will be at your disposal. You have a wider variety of options when it comes to editing the document using Microsoft Word. Just locate the PDF in your files and right-click, then select to open it through Microsoft Word.
