How To Cope On The Days Your Symptoms Are Flaring Up

Whatever is causing your gut issues, it can feel like an endless battle to manage your symptoms and simply try to feel better. And for a lot of the time that can work. But on those days when things aren’t going your way and the symptoms can get the better of you, it’s understandable that you want to hide away until it’s over.

While there may not be an instant cure to feeling better, there are some things you can do to help manage flare-ups and get you through those tough days. Take a look at some of the suggestions below and bookmark for your next symptom flare-up.

Have a plan in place for work

Work will be the last thing you want to deal with when you’re having a flare-up or your symptoms are a little out of control. If you know that your condition can be a barrier to working, why not have an honest conversation with your manager? You may not need to go into too many details, but asking to be able to work from home or work more flexibly when you’re not feeling your best can help relieve some of the pressure of work. There are some excellent tips for managing chronic illness at work to help you feel a little more confident discussing your condition with your manager.

Rest up

A flare-up is usually a sign that you need to rest. It’s possible you ate something you shouldn’t have, or that you’re having a response to something, but rest is usually a way to help you make it through. Take the time to stay in bed and shut the world away, it will still be there tomorrow! Surround yourself with the things you need to stay comfortable, such as a cosy blanket, trashy telly and a comforting drink. You may even wish to think about investing in commodes if you’re worried about making it to the bathroom or if you want to avoid a shared bathroom. Try and let someone else take care of you so you can focus on resting.

Focus on nourishment

You may be put off eating when you’re having a flare-up, but it’s important to keep your energy levels up – especially if you want a quicker recovery. Focus on nourishing your body with the help of healing foods that are full of vitamins and minerals, helping to repair leaky guts and leaving you feeling better in no time. Herbal teas are also wonderful for soothing your gut, while adding a little extra comfort too. Diet can be a very effective way of helping to manage health problems women face, helping to stop symptoms from flaring up and making sure you have the energy you need.

Dealing with a flare-up for your condition can be miserable, leaving you feeling down and lacking in energy. It’s important during this time to focus on saving your energy and giving yourself a little extra self-care. With some time, your symptoms will ease, so you can go back to your regular activities. If your flare-up is severe or hasn’t happened in a long time, it may be worth getting your symptoms checked out to make sure everything is ok.
