A lot goes into our beauty procedures. A lot of thought, a lot of effort and a lot of money. Beauty products are applied to the skin to contour, style, and finish – however; we must be careful with what we place on our skin as it could do some damage. Wrong techniques, allergies, and general negligence can cause some skincare issues that will ensure you’re not exactly comfortable with going au naturale, in fact – a lot of mistakes can cause some quite problematic and long-lasting skin health issues. Your skincare routine is just as important as your beauty regime, so ensure that you spend some down-time during each day to take care and help your skin repair. The very first thing we need to talk about is skincare and the sun. Unfortunately, we cannot just lie in the sun to tan and walk away scot-free. The rays of the sun are incredibly destructive to our skin and can lead to cell changes – pigment and melamine transformations – that can become potentially cancerous. Suncare needs to applied frequently throughout the day to EVERY area of the skin that will be exposed to the sun’s rays. There can be no exceptions to this rule. UV damage can ruin skin, so avoid it when you can – as it will age you. If you want a healthy tan, don’t go looking for the Sun – just apply suncream and enjoy your life out and about. Lying in the sun can be a killer. Don’t go below SPF 30 when it comes to sunscreens, if you can – use SPF 50. There are plenty of good sun lotions out there, Riemann P20 especially, since it doesn’t leave the skin greasy. You can also find a good mix-in that you can combine with your usual day cream, if that suits you more. Use extra products to apply suncream as well, cosmetic sponges are good for this task as they really spread the lotion around and into the skin for complete coverage – it’s also a lot more comfortable when you put it on your face. Don’t skimp out on sun lotion, but also remember two key things. You need to stay out of the sun during the hottest hours of the day (12pm and beyond) to ensure you aren’t in the sun during its most powerful hours. You also need to rehydrate throughout the day with water.
The sun isn’t the only thing causing damage to our skin. It’s a big threat, but so are our beauty procedures, sometimes. One of the most damaging beauty regimes we can perform is shaving bodily hear – but only if we do it wrong. The trouble is, a lot of people can do it wrong. Use a good razor, if you want to get started order razors online to get some good quality equipment. Don’t rush when you are shaving and do not shave against the grain. Use heavy doses of shaving foam, and a good aftershave routine – ensure to moisturize and protect against ingrown hairs, cuts and all those shaving mishaps. If shaving is hurting you during or after the process, you need to consider what you are doing wrong and change up your technique or your aftercare.
When we try to clean out pores and our skin, we also encounter other issues – this is mainly because the names and techniques associated with exfoliating products hint at forceful application (scrub, rubs). This is wrong! Being forceful with these rough products that can contain sharp minerals like rock salts and beads will damage our skin on a microscopic level. Don’t use these with force, simply apply to the face and leave them on for a good duration of time instead of relentlessly rubbing them into your face. If you are going to use force with your skin, you are going to damage your skin. It is simply not worth pursuing at all. Be gentle and kind when it comes to skincare application, especially when it comes to exfoliation.
Be careful with the type of products you use – if you’re experiencing dry skin, spots, rough patches or anything else that could be caused by a potential allergy, stop straight away. You may need to seek medical advice. Don’t use products that you have a reaction to, not at all. Skincare doesn’t need to be a pain!
