Having any type of chronic pain can be almost debilitating for your everyday life. However, if that pain affects your physical mobility, not only are you having to deal with the pain itself, but that pain could prohibit you from doing normal activities that are necessary for survival and your overall happiness. 

One such place where having chronic pain can be particularly hard to deal with is in your knees. Because you use your knees for so many movements, it can be hard to move at all when you’re suffering from this type of physical issue. While some of this pain might just be because you’re getting older, knee pain can also come from injuries or other problems with your joints, bones, or muscles. In all of these cases, a doctor may be able to help you immensely.

According to the Mayo Clinic, what doctors frequently can prescribe for you in order to reduce or relieve your knee pain are injections or surgical options. With injections, you might be given something like a corticosteroid injection of hyaluronic acid. As for surgical options, something like arthroscopic surgery or a knee replacement might be the best option for you. 

Try Low-Impact Exercises

For those who aren’t quite ready to have professional medical treatment for their chronic knee pain, there are other options that you can try on your own to try and alleviate some of this pain.

One of the best ways to keep your knee properly lubricated, according to Dr. William Morrison, a contributor to Medical News Daily, is to make low-impact exercise a part of your daily routine. Some of the best low-impact exercises to try out are swimming, walking, and cycling. All of these exercises will put minimal stress on your knees while also keeping your range of motion up and lubricating the joints so they don’t get stiff, which can cause even more pain. 

Get Yourself A Walking Aid

If even walking is difficult for you to do because of the knee pain you’re suffering from, one of the best things you can do for your body is to relieve some of this pressure by supporting yourself with a walking aid.

Although many people feel embarrassed by this, Dr. Tyler Wheeler, a contributor to WebMD, shares that there’s no reason to be shy about using any type of walking aid, be it a cane or braces on your legs. If it’s going to help you feel better and allow you to be more mobile, than it’s worth trying out.
