4 Effective Ways to Treat Dry Skin on Your Face Naturally

Our skin naturally produces sebum. Sebum is an oil that keeps our skins hydrated and protects the cells from infection. When the skin does not secrete enough sebum, it tends to be dry. Dry skin can be itchy and appear rough. Other causes for dry facial skin are cold weather, unbalanced skin PH, Hypothyroidism, smoking, excessive sunlight exposure, and skin conditions like psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Some people are more prone to dry skin. That said, there are several home remedies that you can use if you are dealing with the issue. Here are ways to treat dry face skin naturally:

Exfoliate

Naturally, the skin will shed old cells and make new ones in their place. Failure to remove the dead skin leaves it on the skin surface. Exfoliating helps remove the dead skin cells, improving skin texture and eliminating dry patches. There are two forms of exfoliation- mechanical and chemical. Mechanical exfoliators work by removing the dead skin cells physically. You can use a facial scrub, brushes, or exfoliating washcloths. Chemical exfoliators, on the other hand, are the perfect alternative. The exfoliators dissolve the dead skin and penetrate deeper to remove dead cells in the pore, leaving the skin supple and soft.

Moisturize and cleanse regularly

Moisturizers create a barrier on the natural skin encouraging skin water retention. Several moisturizers are available in the market, and you can always find one that works for your skin type. Most deeply moisturizing moisturizers contain hyaluronic acid, colloidal oatmeal, and ceramides. You could also opt for natural moisturizers like aloe vera gel and shea butter. However, you may want to avoid oily products if you have oily skin to minimize breakouts. Consider getting a personalised skin care routine from an experienced professional. Avoid skin care products that contain drying agents like alcohol, dioxane, and artificial fragrances. Cleanse with gentle cleansers. Some soaps may contain chemicals that irritate and dry out the skin. To avoid drying out your face, opt for fragrance-free, mild cleansers. Stay away from products that have plastics, artificial colours and alcohol.

Use a humidifier

We tend to have dry skin when the air around us is dry. That can happen when we constantly have air conditioning blasting in our houses all the time. A simple solution to this is getting a humidifier. A humidifier will add moisture indoors and reduce the drying on the face.

Lower the shower temperatures

A simple tweak to your bathing routine may be all you need to counter dry skin. Hot water tends to strip our skins of its natural oils. That leaves the skin dry. Also, spending too much time washing your face removes sebum from the skin. Limit your shower time and wash your face with cold water. Be sure to apply moisturizer immediately after washing your face to lock in the moisture. Another tweak that will reap significant benefits is to do away with soaps that trigger allergic reactions on your face.

Final remarks

Dry skin on your face may be of grave concern. Luckily, there are proven ways to counter the issue. Try the remedies suggested above. However, if nothing seems to be doing it for you, consult a dermatologist to prescribe the best solution for your particular needs.
